Cannes 2010 Predictions Reel

Last night I have attended a very special event organised by Leo Burnett.
The event was held in Taylor's Lakeside Cmapus.

The event is to showcased Cannes Lions Predictions Reel - a compilation of 50 of the best advertising work from around the world including TV commercials, digital and ground activation programmes and various other communication mediums, which the network feels will most likely win a Cannes Lions award.

The interesting part of the event was everyone that was invited to the event was assumed the mantle of Creative Director for the night. The guests were invited to pass judgement on the works.
LB even printed a name card for each of their guests with the position of Creative Director on the card itself.

Tan Kien Eng, CEO of Leo Burnett, Arc Worldwide, Singapore, Malaysia.

Here are some interesting videos that were showed last night that I found worth sharing :

Expensive Nescafe Ice

How much do you think a Nescafe Ice cost at a normal kopitiam?
No air-cond, no expensive food. Just normal kopitiam that we have noodles or economy rice.

When the Indonesian waiter came to me and asking me RM2.40 for the Nescafe Ice, me and my colleague were stunned and cannot believe what we had heard. I looked at the waiter and asked for a few times to double confirm whether I have heard it wrongly.

At other normal kopitiam, a cup of hot Nescafe will cost about RM1.60. The highest price that they can go will just to RM1.80. This RM2.40 Nescafe Ice is just too much. Even the waiter agreed with me that they tauke are charging too much. It is way too expensive for a normal kopitiam like this.

Other than the Nescafe, this 新福成茶餐室 located at Mentari Sunway which is very near to Leisure Commerce Square also charged RM2.00++ for a can of soft drinks!

Big Con

Last month, I came across a website which asked me to put in my mobile number to win a 3Gs iPhone.

After keying in my number, I received sms asking me to confirm the submission by replying the email. I did the same for this and was innocently thinking that i might able to win an iPhone. With the TWO sms that were sent to me by the content provider, it charges me RM8 per sms which I am totally do no aware of.

When my phone bill came, I then realised that the TWO sms costs me RM8 per sms.
I was very shock on how expensive the sms are.
During that time, I comforted myself thinking it is okay, this big con just cost your RM16. Just take it as a lesson.

My April Phone Bill on the External Content Provider section

A few weeks after that, i received TWO sms again from this content provider by asking me to download free ringtones, images...etc. It stated RM8 in the each sms and I was thinking, Sh*t! This time really big con already. The company is still charging me without my permission.

So, I have decided to sms "Unsubscribe" to this 36181. Then it asked me to sms "STOP" to stop the service.
I did it as told. Then, it sms me back and asked me to type "STOP ALL" to stop all services. I did it as told too.
Finally, it sms me back by saying I have successfully unsubscribe.

I thought I will have to pay another RM16 for the TWO stupid sms that was sent to me.
When I have my May phone bill, I have found that this 36181 have already charged me RM48 for all those sms and the sms were just asking you to download ringtones and images from their website.

My May Phone Bill on the External Content Provider section

What kind of sms that need to charge RM8? They are not those mms with pictures or musics. They are just normal sms with just a few texts asking you to go their website to download stuff. Do they need to charge RM8??!!

I complaint to Maxis and also call to the number 03-20722617 to ask for refund.
It is not refundable as the terms & conditions were stated very clearly in the website which I have overlooked on it.

So, alright I admitted that i have been so careless that I did not read on the terms & conditions.
But, to me this company is not doing the right thing as they are waiting for people like me to fall into the trap:
  1. Firstly, the T&C were at the bottom that the subscribers might overlook on it. As a normal practise for those company who want to charge the users for the sms, the T&C normally will appear at a very prominent place to make sure that the subscribers are totally alert about the charges.
  2. Secondly, RM8 for a sms?! Do you still think that they are not trying to con people? I doubt it!
Here are the BIG CON company's info:

When I Google Search on the number 36181 or 03-20722617, I found out that this Big Con have been happening since 2006. Since it has been happening since 2006 and the company is being fined but why this company is still active and conning people around??!!

Tiger Trex

Last Friday, WWF-Malaysia, The StarOnline and D'Jungle People came to Taylor's to have exhibition and gave briefing on the Tiger Trex Temenggor-Belum Rainforest Expedition.

Tiger Trex is an interesting event where the selected person from the winning team will get the chance to visit Temengor-Belum Rainforest to check out on the camera traps to track tigers. Other than this, they also can interact with the Orang Asli over there and do jungle trekking where they can see the wildlife in the jungle.

To win the place, students will need form a team of 4 and submit either 10 photo stories or a graffiti and or a video recording on a specialty dish.

The Tiger Trex is part of the TX2 activities. The purpose is to create awareness on tiger conservation and to DOUBLE the number of tigers.
Students were enjoying themselves in the Quiz session

Talk given during the day on Fun Facts about Tiger and Tiger Conservation from WWF.

The talk by WWF-Malaysia was indeed useful.
It was so shocking that hunting tigers is actively happening around us and we did not realising it.

According to WWF-Malaysia, 50 yeas ago, there were about 3,000 of tiger population in Malaysia. But now, it only left 500. Just imagine, how many will be left in the coming next 50 years if nothing has done to save the tigers?

Not many of us realise that the tigers are getting to their extinction if we humans do not act fast on protecting them.
Tigers are being hunted illegally, cruelly and uncontrollably.
These hunting activities need to be stopped. If not, there will be no more tiger to be found in elsewhere.

Check out more on the TX2 --> http://www.tx2.my

This is the video that makes me cry. It is just so heart-breaking:

Public Manners

Last night I was happily went to Midvalley Megamall to watch the movie "Ip Man".

While I was in the lift from carpark to shopping mall, the lift stopped at Ground Floor and there were a lot of people squeezing into the lift. There was a little girl who is at the age of about 7, who was being kind enough to help on pressing the open/close lift button at every floor the lift stopped.

I was so glad for this little girl as she knows about the manners of using the lift.
We should be helping others with the lift button other than letting the door to smash on them or letting the door close while others are having difficulty in going out or coming in.

Out of the sudden, the father with the sour face began to scold the little girl : "Don't press on the buttons. You Do Not work for the company! You are not the lift attendance!"
I stared straight to the father's face and was thinking that what kind of lessons were this mature adult trying to teach his innocent kids?
We should be teaching our children to do good and not teaching them to be selfish.

No wonder nowadays, the people around us are being very rude.
They do not queue, they throw rubbish everywhere, they trouble people by just thinking of their own convenient, they do not respect people and etc.
Parents are not portraying good examples to the young generations. How are the youngsters going to be thoughtful and polite whereas the parents are not giving them the right guidance?

Lunch @ Taylor's Truffles

The whole department of mine was having lunch at one of the Restaurant in Taylor's Lakeside campus this afternoon with the agencies.

There are a few restaurants in Taylor's and we were in Truffles today.
Truffles serve fine-dinning food as well as wine.
The interior of the restaurant is very nice. It is very classy and comfy too~~

Our menu of the day

Satisfying Butterfish serve with Saute Spinach & Cream Sauce - fusion, interesting combination of taste and deco
Prepared by Taylor's award-winning chef

Super rich and yummy Chocolate Cake with raspberry sauce with gooseberry deco

My all time favorite - Coffee

Interesting design on the sugar container and also on the others tableware

Interesting Ad Copy

My yoga teacher, Jamie has been kind enough to buy me a sample pack of Dermedex product to treat my facial problem.

I am not sure whether the product works as I haven't tried it yet.
But, I found the copies on the packaging for this product are quite entertaining.

The product stated:
"CAUTION"
You May Fall in Love With This Product
Do Not be Surprised To See Result on First Application

Such a daring statement for a cosmetic product.
I have not came across with any cosmetic products which dare to claim themselves 100% work.

There were rumours about this product containing Steroid and I found them in most of the forums.
It makes me worried more with the rumours + the super confident statement.

Flavoured Milk Tea

When I was travelling in Taiwan about 3 years ago, I fell madly in love with all the packet drinks sold there, especially the milk teas.
They have a lot of flavours for the milk tea, such as Strawberry, Apple, Honey dew and so on.

I miss the milk teas so much when I got back from Taiwan.

Surprisingly, I found this type of milk teas are selling in one of the mini-market at SS15~~!!
Yeah~~now I can drink all I want at any time! :)

Sabun Tahan Mengantuk

Found this interesting poster at the back of a lorry that carried Petronas gas.
Sabun Tahan Mengantuk...hm...i wonder how it works?

It seems like another magic soap to me.
They are on TV3 as well~~

Opps! I FELL again!

Remember that I fell off the stairs and had stitches one week after I started my new job?
Guess what happened on my forth day after moving to my new office?

Bingo! I FELL again!

I tripped on the same pants & same heels wore for my 1st glamourous fall.
When I fell, it was so loud that everyone in the office stood up and see what was happening.

Luckily there was no bleeding but there were scratches on the hands and bruises on the knees.
Great. I hurt my left knee because of Badminton. Now, I hurt my the other knee. What else?!

Kuala Selangor & Sekinchan

Had a great trip with my frens to Kuala Selangor & Sekinchan.

We managed to fulfill our target by having an awesome and yet reasonable price seafood meal for lunch.

Other than that, we spent the whole morning sitting in the "train", service provided by Bukit Malawati @ Kuala Selangor, travelling from Bukit Malawati to Stadium and to Aquarium. It was a special experience as we never thought that we can ride a "train" on a normal tar road.

"Train" at Bukit Malawati @ Kuala Selangor

Beautiful & colorful "chicken" @ Bukit Malawati

This golden chicken tried to hide his/her face from us

Sekinchan is a beautiful place indeed.
Other than greenish paddy field, we can find beautiful fisherman villages around the place.

We were lucky as the weather on the day itself was super good.
Thus, we managed to capture colorful pictures with gorgeous skies in blue, white clouds with a lot of forms, and the wide broad greenish paddy field.

Little Printer Trick Can Save Big Money

MILWAUKEE – Here's a way you might save $20 this year: Change the font in the documents you print.

Because different fonts require different amounts of ink to print, you could be buying new printer cartridges less often if you wrote in, say, Century Gothic rather than Arial. Schools and businesses could save thousands of dollars with font changes.

Data on the subject from Printer.com, a Dutch company that evaluates printer attributes, persuaded theUniversity of Wisconsin-Green Bay to make a switch. Diane Blohowiak, coordinator of information-technology user support, has asked faculty and staff to use Century Gothic for all printed documents. The school also plans to change its e-mail system so it uses Century Gothic.

"The feedback we've gotten so far has been positive," she said. "Century Gothic is very readable."

The school of 6,500 students spends about $100,000 per year on ink and toner cartridges. Although students and staff can change the default font to something more ink-intensive, Blohowiak said the university expects to save $5,000 to $10,000 per year with the font switch.

When Printer.com tested popular fonts for their ink-friendly ways, Century Gothic and Times New Romantopped the list. Calibri, Verdana, Arial and Sans Serif were next, followed by Trebuchet, Tahoma and Franklin Gothic Medium. Century Gothic uses about 30 percent less ink than Arial.

The amount of ink a font drains is mainly driven by the thickness of its lines. A font with "narrow" or "light" in its name is usually better than its "bold" or "black" counterpart, said Thom Brown, an ink researcher at Hewlett-Packard Co., the world's top maker of printers.

Also, serif fonts — those with short horizontal lines at the top and bottom of characters — tend to use thinner lines and thus less ink than a "sans serif" counterpart.

But while using less ink at home can help you buy roughly one fewer printer cartridge each year, it's not necessarily better for the environment.

That's because some fonts that use less ink, including Century Gothic, are also wider. A document that's one page in Arial could extend to a second page if printed in Century Gothic. Blohowiak said her research suggests that ink comprises the main cost of a printout, but the environmental costs of paper are probably higher.

"Maybe the individual characters use less ink, but if you're using more paper, that's not so green, is it?" said Allan Haley, director of "words and letters" at Monotype Imaging Inc. in Woburn, Mass., which developed Century Gothic.

Also, Century Gothic was designed for limited blocks of text such as titles and headlines, not for full documents, said Haley, who describes fonts as his "children." Despite Printer.com's research and UW-Green Bay's experience, Haley said he still recommends Times New Roman or Arial for their readability.

The standard advice for trimming printing expenses still applies: Print in "draft mode," if you can. Use both sides of a page and do a print preview to make sure you're not printing pages with useless text such as a copyright line. Using an ink-saving font is just one more technique to consider.

And the greenest way to save on ink is not to print at all.

That's the philosophy Microsoft Corp. said it uses in deciding which fonts to include in its Outlook and Word applications. The more pleasing a font looks on the screen, the less tempted someone will be to print, said Simon Daniels, a program manager for Microsoft's typography group.

That's why the company changed its defaults in Office 2007 from Arial and Times New Roman to Calibri and Cambria, he said.

"We're trying to move the threshold of when people hit the print button," he said. "

Go Away

欢乐歌舞剧《白雪公主第十五章》

After 2 years, finally I am back to theater production.
Too sad not as an actress this time but as the director's assistant. Anyway, many thanks to the director for giving me a chance to learn more from him like what we used to do 2 years ago.

Watching all the cast members practising, reminds me of my drama club activities during University time.
It was just so fun for joining the club and I have no regrets since then.

Here are the details for the coming show:
